[texts]A Conceptual Framework for Energy Education, K-12 (better copy) - Enterprise for Education, Santa Monica, CA
After a brief statement of the goals of energy education, the concept of energy literacy is loosely defined and two ways are identified by which energy education can be introduced into school curricula. A number of related generalizations are identified that might form the basis for the development of energy curricula, followed in each case by a brief list of selected reference materials. These generalizations include lessons that may be taught on: conversion and measurement of energy, energy fl...

[movies]Military effects studies on Operaton Teapot (restored colours) - USAF Lookout Mountain laboratory; MichiForna88
I tried to restore the original colors of the Operation Teapot film by removing most of the red hue with Avidemux. Of course, this is far from being any kind of professional job - indeed there are portions of the film that now have a fain green/blue hue, unfortunatly. However, still better than nothing... By the way, it seems that from 1955 at Lookout Mountain laboratory someone decided to put some kind of laquer (which turned reddish in the years) on the prints of the films to protect them from...

[movies]Operation HARDTACK Military Effects Studies: Sub-kiloton effects - USAF Lookout Mountain laboratory; MichiForna88
Part four of the Operation Hardtack series, which examines sub-kiloton effects to weapon and personnel. The entire soundtrack has been removed from this declassified version of the film, evidently containing still sensitive information; the complete film, as far as I know, is still classified Secret - Restricted Data. This film actually covers Phase II of Operation Hardtack, conducted at the Nevada Test Site in 1958, during which safety of nuclear weapons was determinated against accidental deto...

[movies]Operation HARDTACK Military Effects Studies: Part IV - Sub-kiloton effects - USAF Lookout Mountain laboratory
Original telecine transfert of the fourth Operation Hardtack film; the color-corrected (sort of) version is avaiable elsewhere here on the Archive. As you can see - or better, as you can hear - the whole soundtrack has been "sanitized" (id est, removed) by the reviewer; as far as I know the original film is still classified as "Secret - Restricted Data". By the way: REP stands for "Roentgen Equivalent Physical", an obsolete unit of measure of radiation in which "the absorbed energetic dose befor...

[movies]Technical report: Tumbler Snapper - USAF Lookout Mountain Laboratory
Relatively technical black and white film about the Tumbler-Snapper nuclear test series of 1952, which uses footage from the Tumbler-Snapper film avaiable here on Internet Archive. The viewer must not worry should the audio drop to zero: it has been done so to censor ("sanitize") parts which may reveal still-classified information. It is also interesting to see that there are no yellow bands going up to down the screen, as happened on previously released declassified DoE films (seems that they s...

[movies]Operation ARGUS, Report of Chief, AFSWP to ARPA - Lookout Mountain Laboratory USAF
Operation ARGUS was a series of three high-altitude nuclear tests conducted by the Atomic Energy Commission in the South Atlantic Ocean in August and September 1958. The results of Operation ARGUS proved the validity of the Christofilos Theory. This theory proposed that a radiation belt is created in the upper regions of the Earth's atmosphere by high-altitude detonations. The radiation belt affects radio and radar transmissions, damages or destroys the arming and fuzing mechanisms of interconti...

Operation CASTLE was a six-detonation test series held at the Atomic Energy Commission's (AEC) Pacific Proving Ground in the Spring of 1954. This test series, principally conducted at the Enewetak and Bikini Atolls in the northwestern Marshall Islands, provided proof tests of large-yield thermonuclear, or hydrogen, devices.
